The community dentistry department functions with the following
objectives:
- Orient students to the profession of dentistry, its development
philosophies and activities related to community oral health promotion.
- Develop in students, the concept of ethical behavior and laws
that govern the profession.
- Stimulate an interest in participating in community health
activities.
The department of community dentistry plans a
vital role in helping the institution and the RSS trust fulfill
its social obligation of service to the underprivileged and making
dental care accessible to people in the social and rural periphery.
SATELLITE CLINICS
The Department is involved in the running of 4
satellite centers wherein staff and interns are posted to provide
Emergency care, Referral and Specialist services to reach out and
provide quality dental care to the rural or the social periphery.
- Sevakshetra Hospital
- Ashwini Dental Care in association with Ashwini Medical Trust
- Shantinagar Primary Health Care center in association with Jayadeva
Institute of Cardiology, CAMHADD and WHO.
- Sriramanahalli Health Center in coordination with People's Trust
Organization.
- Adoption of LFS Sriramapuram School, as part of School Oral
Health Education Program.
The treatment provided in field programmes, Sriramanahalli
and LFS School are free unlike at other satellite centers where
patients are charged on the nominal basis.

FIELD PROGRAMMES
Under the aegis of this department since 1994
till date more than 675 screening, treatment and Oral health education
programs have been undertaken in Schools, Colleges, Rural areas,
Orphanages, Oldage Homes, Slums, Defense Organizations catering
to the needs of more than 2,65,611 people not only in the state
of Karnataka, but also in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,
etc.
The Department is involved in initiating and coordinating research
activities in the institution and in the collaboration of projects
with prestigious organizations like UNICEF, Dental council of India,
CAMHADD, etc
The Department of community dentistry coordinates
regular and special NSS activities in tandem with the NSS cell of
Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences
"GATEWAY TO HEALTHY MOUTH"
The Department has a full-fledged health exhibition area "Gateway
to healthy mouth" which boasts of sections devoted completely
for educating and motivating patients towards better oral health
and s general health.
The first section has cubicles displaying charts and models based
on concepts of Healthy mouth, dental caries, gum diseases, malocclusion,
oral cancer, etc.
The second section is the area equipped with audio-visual aids providing
a seating capacity of 25-30people. Oral health programmes are screened
here on regular basis as per fixed schedule.
At the HELP DESK (Health Education and Learning Programme) the
visitors can clarify their doubts and seek assistance of the doctor
who guides in selection of oral hygiene devices and demonstrates
the appropriate method of brushing, flossing using the models, tooth
brushes, tooth paste, dental floss etc available.
